As usual, Nintendo is remaining tight-lipped about the new 3DS system, but it was just made known that “3DS” is not the system’s actual shelf name. Our good friend Mr. Iwata made this statement earlier:
“Since we’ve stated that it will go on sale during the present term, I think the formal name will be made public in the not-so-distant future.” – Satoru Iwata
Other than the fact that it will be Nintendo’s first three-dimensional system, as well as continuing their line of handhelds, we really don’t know anything about the end game for this system. It all seems relatively similar to Zelda Wii, if you ask me.
Feel free to discuss what you think the name should be in our comments section!

Personally, I htink that "3DS" is a relatively nice, simple name, but I'm starting to get tired of the "Nintendo DS" line. At this point, there's little to distinguish the DS Phat, the DS lite, the DSi, or the DSi XL from each other. If this truly is an all new system, that need to be made clear.
Who knows, maybe they'll bring the Game Boy line back. That'd be cool.
Something to do with Dual Screens of-course.
So thats DS.
So 3DS sounds reasonable, I think Nintendo is just making us anticipate.
Make that Nintendo’s second three-dimensional system.
The 3DS is going to be "truly" 3D, rather than simply using shading to create a "3D" effect like on the Nintendo DS.
I don't know man, the virtual boy was pretty awesome.
Can't say I've ever played it. I'd pick one up online if there were any good games.
I just hope that rumor of NDS Cards not working on it isn't true, or I can't play any of my old stuff
Well, as of now, most systems have been backwards compatible with the previous generation. In other words, I think you're safe.
Personally, I'd like to see them have more and more compatibility with even older games, such as GBC, GBA, etc.
