Ocarina of Time for the 3DS image 6After quite a few debates for the last 18 or so hours, we can finally announce that it’s official; There will be an Ocarina of Time remake for the 3DS. To the right, you’ll see the final image which we’ve uncovered (though none of these pics are really “special secrets” anymore). However, we must let some of the hopes dwindle a bit; It’s not confirmed that it will be the full version of “Ocarina of Time”. Nintendo is still playing around with it, and using it to test the functionality of the system.

According to Kotaku, Ocarina of Time 3D is “like a few other 3DS titles shown off so far is merely a tech demo for the new hardware”. However, it sound like the head honchos at the big “N” are so desiring to have this full game on the NIntendo 3DS, so maybe it will come true. You can view the official news on Nintendo’s E3 site. Once there, click on “Nintendo Titles”.

We hope that you’re still excited, as we sure are. Also, as a side-note, if Ocarina of Time does make it to the 3DS, we’ll be covering the game right here, at Zelda in my Pocket.

I doubt they would even bother showing this if they really had no intention to fully recreate the game. I'm convinced that it's a go, and let me tell you why: Nintendo did the same thing with Mario 64 DS, a very popular N64 game that they were able to tweak and re-release to thunderous applause. The only other game that would have that much of a bang like Mario 64, as many no doubt know, is Ocarina of Time. Nintendo knows that this game is one of their crown jewels, and if they think they can continue to profit from it by recreating it for a hand-held system, they'll do it. I don't think it's a question of "if" now so much as "when".

I think it depends on if the 3DS hold enough power in the correct ways to do so. The problem is that unlike Mario 64, it's a huge game. They may be making descions of what ypes of cartridges and such will have to be used to store that much info, and allow the 3DS to process it fast enough.

If they could do it with Mario 64, I have no doubts they can do it with Ocarina of Time. Let's also not forget that they are moving to a more powerful 3D system in the 3DS, and the rate of advancement in most electronics is growing leaps and bounds with each passing month. Heck, when you buy a new computer, it's obsolete a month later. The point: I don't think they'd even float the idea of remaking Ocarina of Time for this system if they didn't think there was any chance the system could efficiently handle the size and scope of the game.
